Work Equipment Regulations - Coverage
The Work Equipment Regulations cover every type of work equipment, except privately owned cars, in every type of indoor or outdoor workplace, except sea-going vessels in normal circumstances.
Equipment provided for use at work is covered. This includes equipment that is hired or borrowed as well as equipment that is purchased or leased.
Equipment used by employees at work is also covered, such as where employees need to or are allowed to provide their own tools or other equipment.
As regards company cars provided for employee use at work, the work equipment regulations apply but the more specific road traffic legislation on the safety of vehicles takes precedence when these vehicles are used on public roads.
