The register of members is the definitive record of share ownership in a private limited company. This guidance note focuses on this statutory register and aims to provide customers with an in depth understanding of the requirements of this register for a private limited company.

The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2006 (ECCTA) is introducing important changes to the register of members which companies need to be aware of and plan for. This guidance has been updated to reflect these changes. Some of these changes came into force on 4th March 2024, whilst most of these changes are expected to be implemented during 2024.
