Control of Substances Hazardous to Health – Risk Assessment

COSHH Risk Assessment

A COSHH Risk Assessment is needed whenever you expose yourself, your employees or anyone else to a substance that could cause them harm whether it is dust, liquid, powder, gas etc. Even everyday chemicals such as glue need to be handled correctly; if it is used in a windowless room the fumes could easily make you pass out. Or cement, used every day on every building project, but if cement is used incorrectly it can cause severe burns.

This COSHH Risk Assessment form has been completely updated to make it user friendly. It follows a similar layout and format to the other risk assessments in the Health and Safety folder, but is specifically written to follow the information given in a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). A MSDS is the document provided by the product supplier that describes what hazards are associated with the chemical product concerned, it also includes information on handling, storage and emergency measures in case of accident.

This form is intended to be used in conjunction with a new document – Guidance Notes on how to use a Material Safety Data Sheet to do a COSHH Risk Assessment. This Guidance Note is intended to help you complete the risk assessment methodically, to make sure that you have the right level of protection in place. As with all risk assessments it has to be suitable and sufficient, and this guide will help you complete one properly.

Once you have purchased access to the appropriate document folder click on the “Download Document” button below. You will be asked what you want to do with the file. It is recommended that you save the document to a location of your choice prior to viewing.
