Force Majeure Clause

TR.C&L.07.06

The Force Majeure Clause is one of a number of standard clauses that can be used to draft a new contract or to amend/improve an existing contract. A force majeure clause relieves a party of its obligations under the contract temporarily if an event beyond the reasonable control of that party prevents it from carrying out the relevant obligations. In more extreme cases, where the event prevents performance beyond a certain time period, a force majeure clause can make it possible for the contract to be terminated. Both short and long-form versions of the clause are included in this document.

This clause template has been reviewed and updated for improved compatibility with other documents in the Simply-Docs portfolio. Minor adjustments to the drafting and structure of the clause also make it easier to read and understand.

Optional text is enclosed in square brackets. These should be read carefully and selected so as to be compatible with one another. Unused options should be removed from the document.
