Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Policy

EMP.RE.03.20

This Policy on Bringing Employees’ Own Devices to Work (BYOD) defines what the Company considers to be acceptable in respect of BYOD.

Increasingly, employees are using their own devices to access and store corporate information, as well as their own personal information. This is known as ‘bring your own device’ or BYOD.

Companies should ensure that they have a strong BYOD policy in order to protect them against the risks that come with employees using personal smartphones, laptops and tablets to process work-related information. Under the UK's data protection legislation (which includes the UK GDPR), companies must show that they have taken appropriate measures to protect against unauthorised or unlawful access if the device is, for example, lost or stolen.

This policy makes staff aware of the issues caused by using personal devices for work and sets down the key steps to be followed in limiting the potential risks to employers.

This Policy on Bringing Employees’ Own Devices to Work (BYOD) also refers to our Communications, Email and Internet Policy and Data Protection Policy.
